Description
Real World Math Project provides a fun way for Middle School students to discover what it is like to have a job, pay taxes, have a mortgage, a car loan, go grocery shopping and set up a budget! Just like in real life!
The great thing about this project is that all of these things have been simplified to a middle school level, making this project educational and enjoyable for students.
Students will start the project by picking a career. Next, students will complete a guided worksheet to calculate their monthly income after taxes. Students will use their monthly income to decide which house and car they can afford. Then, students will go food shopping to estimate the cost of groceries for one month. Last, students will create a budget of their monthly expenses.
The download includes the following:
- 9 page student packet which includes a title page, outline of the project, expense chart, food shopping list, budget chart, journal, and grading checklist
- 2 pages of career cards
- 10 pages of homes
- 10 pages of cars
- 5 day lesson plan
- 5 journal prompt PowerPoint slides
