Description

I created this lab because I wanted my students to relate macromolecules to real-life experiences (how they are tested for in day-to-day life, like the nursing field). A lot of macromolecules labs involve testing food items and looking for a positive tests, but this is not realistic. In real-life we test for glucose and protein in urine, not food. I have used the food labs before and students complete the tests, but that real-life connection was missing. The lab does involve some prep work ahead of time, but once you have the initial set-up complete, using the lab from year to year is a piece of cake. Teacher set-up instructions are included. The idea for this lab came from http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/waldron/organic (Who Took Jerell’s iPod) a free lab, but has been significantly modified. I used some of the original review questions, but that’s about it)

I had to rework this a little as it was too easy for an AP class but I used a lot of the materials and the lab itself. The KIDS LOVED IT!

This is perfect for my 9th graders who wouldn't be mature enough for some of the other macro labs!
