Use as a slideshow on Smart/Promethean Board.
Give students cards with examples of Real Numbers (my created set of cards COMING SOON!) Student walks to board and places his/her number in spot that it works. Have other students raise hands and comment on placement.
(Does it make sense? Is that the right category? Did they put it on one side, and it belongs in the middle? Selectively pick a few students to go up and talk about their number that DOES NOT fit into either category… to which category does it belong?)
GROUP PARTICIPATION DIRECTIONS:
1.) Print venn diagrams for each group to have a set. Or display on board (use whiteboards for students to copy, or technology for them to draw).
2.) Work together to sort through all numbers you provide and write the numbers on their venn diagrams and turn in a set per group.
3.) Listen for students justifying why a number fits in a category, and have them call you over when they believe they’ve placed all the numbers on the diagrams.
Additional ideas: Create a bulletin board of venn diagrams to leave up in your room or on your hall, have students sort cards and take pictures with their technology to email to teacher.
