Description
This bundle brings together two of my most-loved patterning resources — the fast-paced Speed Pattern Games and the open-ended Mix & Match Patterns Pack. Together, they give you what you need to teach, practise, assess and extend repeating patterns.
Students learn to see, say, build and explain patterns using counters, unifix cubes or counting bears, while developing strong early algebra foundations. The games build fluency and focus; the open-ended tasks build reasoning, generalisation and mathematical language. Both work beautifully for small-groups, whole-class lessons, intervention, fast finishers and hands-on maths centres.
What’s inside the bundle
Speed Pattern Games
- 3 variations of the game
- Pattern cards (AB, AAB, ABB, ABC, etc.)
- Winner cards and optional game boards
- Create-your-own templates
- Blackline versions
- F–2 lesson plans, ideas and curriculum links
- Observation checklists
- Intervention & differentiation tips
Mix & Match Patterns
- 200+ pages including low-ink/blackline masters
- 9 pattern types (AB, AABB, AAB, ABB, ABC, AABC, ABBC, ABCC, ABCD)
- Pattern strips (bears, counters, cubes)
- Colour-coded letter cards
- Repeating unit cards
- Pattern rule cards
- Position fact cards (“shown” + “if continued”)
- Thinking & question cards
- Create-your-own worksheets
- Recommended learning sequence for F–3
How the Speed Pattern Games work
- Turn over a pattern card
- Build the pattern as fast as you can
- Shout “Done!”
- Check for accuracy
- First correct build wins a point or winner card
Includes cooperative and competitive variations to keep students motivated, talking and thinking mathematically.
What this bundle builds
- Pattern recognition, fluency and generalisation
- Understanding of repeating units (the core)
- Copying, continuing and creating patterns
- Reasoning and justification (“How do you know what comes next?”)
- Early algebraic thinking
- Strong maths vocabulary (repeat, element, rule, next, position)
- Visual/spatial awareness
- Focus, attention and fine-motor control
- Collaborative play and rich maths talk
- Essential foundations for skip-counting, coding and rhythm patterns later on
Why I love this bundle
- Works across F–3 and is easy to differentiate
- Low-prep, high-impact and classroom-tested
- Ideal for assessment, intervention, extension or enrichment
- Curriculum-aligned and ready to print
- Flexible for centres, rotations, whole-class or individual work
I hope your students enjoy these as much as mine have — and that this bundle makes your maths block calmer, clearer and far more enjoyable to teach.
