Description

This test is intended for use in upper elementary grade levels. It has several sections all dealing with rhythm. The first part is a matching vocabulary section using terms such as barlines, steady beat, measures, and all of the note values from whole notes to sixteenth notes. In the next section, students have to use the barlines and blanks already drawn to create note rhythms in various time signatures. In part three, the note rhythms are already drawn and students have to go in and put bar lines in the appropriate places. The last section is a listening exercise. I play a 4 beat rhythm on drums and have students try to notate it on the page. There are just two questions in this section. I allow students to draw the notes or write the rhythm words (ta, ti ti, tika tika) to fill in the blanks. At the end, there is an extra credit question about time signatures. I have used this for several years now and it seems to work well with grades 3-5.
