Description

Help your Geometry students master right triangle trigonometry with this complete unit bundle of guided notes, homework, and exit tickets. This unit is designed to give students a clear and structured understanding of trigonometric ratios, including sine, cosine, and tangent, and how to use them to solve right triangles.

Throughout the unit, students will explore real-world trigonometry applications, such as finding heights and distances using angles of elevation and depression. The lessons also include practice on special right triangles (30-60-90 and 45-45-90) and emphasize how to connect trigonometric ratios to similar triangles and geometric reasoning.

Each lesson includes guided notes that scaffold new content, homework assignments for additional practice, and exit tickets (or quick checks) for formative assessment. The materials align to Geometry Regents and high school Geometry standards, making this resource ideal for classroom instruction, review, or intervention.

This unit works perfectly for both in-person and digital instruction. Teachers can project or share guided notes, assign homework for practice, or use the exit tickets to quickly assess understanding. Students gain confidence as they learn to find missing sides and angles in right triangles and apply trigonometry to real-world word problems.

UNIT 9 LESSONS:

Lesson 1: Trigonometric Ratios

Students will be able to understand that by similarity, side ratios in right triangles are properties of the angles in the triangle, leading to definitions of sine, cosine and tangent ratios for acute angles.

Lesson 2: Special Right Triangles

Students will be able to use the properties of special right triangles to solve right triangles in applied problems.

Lesson 3: Solving for a Side

Students will be able to use sine, cosine, and tangent to solve for a side in a right triangle.

Lesson 4: Solving for an Angle

Students will be able to use sine, cosine, and tangent to solve for an angle in a right triangle.

Lesson 5: Solving for a Side or Angle

Students will be able to use sine, cosine, and tangent to solve for a side or an angle in a right triangle.

Lesson 6: Cofunctions

Students will be able to explain and use the relationship between the sine and cosine of complementary angles.

Lesson 7: Law of Sines

Students will be able to use the Law of Sines to find unknown measurements in right and non-right triangles.

Lesson 8: Applications

Students will be able to use sine, cosine, and tangent to solve right triangles in applied problems.

Lesson 9: Area of a Triangle

Students will be able to apply the formula A = 1⁄2ab sin(C) to find the area of any triangle.
