Description
If you are looking for a project to assign for either in class work or at home work this is it. This project should be done after students are able to set up and solve right triangle trigonometry problems, and they are familiar with angles of elevation. I worked on this assignment over the course of two days. On day 1, I had students create their own clinometers and practice using them (materials listed in resources). On day 2, we walked around the school campus together and they calculated the heights of the flagpole, field goal posts, and doorframes.
This is a great project to apply the skills students learn in any right triangle trigonometry unit.
