Description
Students will make connections between right triangle trigonometry and cofunctions in this partner challenge activity! Students must use their knowledge of right triangle trig and SOH CAH TOA to develop the relationship between the sine and cosine of complementary angles.
About Geometry Partner Challenges:
Have you ever wished your students could do activities that develop better understanding but don't make you fall behind on the material? These partner challenges are the solution! Students will encounter a productive struggle and be forced to think before they learn.
The Details:
- This activity acts as a bridge between right triangle trigonometry and cofunctions.
- Students should already know how to evaluate sine, cosine, and tangent. They will have an Activity Toolbox that includes the facts they will need to know to successfully complete this activity.
- Knowledge of solving trig equations is not necessary.
- Students will work in pairs to 12 problems each. Students will have different papers with different problems but that have the same answers. They should compare and check answers before moving onto to the next question.
- Students will complete a 4 question reflection discussing what they learned.
- Students will complete 10 questions practicing the new concept of cofunctions.
- Worried students will struggle? This resource comes with printable tickets that you can give each group. They can redeem their tickets for help. Tickets include sayings like "Redeem for a Teacher Tip" as well as a blank copy for you to write your own in.
