Description
This bundle of student comprehension checks is meant to accompany the first three episodes of Discovery Channel's fascinating documentary series "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero", which can be streamed on Discovery+ or rented other places online.
The episodes are between 42-44 minutes long and focus on the story of New York City rebuilding a 16-acre plot, the site of the 9/ll attacks in lower Manhattan, and working to heal in the process. The episode not only goes into detail about the One World Trade Center's design, construction, and significance but also spends a significant amount of time with survivors and eyewitnesses who recount the events of the 9/11 attacks.
This is an excellent resource for students studying the aftereffects of 9/11 on New York City and our nation. Additionally, it would be an excellent preparation guide for students getting ready to visit the museum or memorial at Ground Zero.
These worksheets to accompany the episodes ask both basic questions which require students to pay attention and more advanced questions requiring students to think more deeply about what they saw. The goal is to turn a simple watching experience into a thoughtful exercise where students must interact in meaningful ways with history.
