Robotics Webquest

Description

This is an introductory assignment to Robotics. The goal is to learn about the past, present, and future of robotics. This assignment gets students thinking about the career path they might want in the future and whether or not a machine may be doing that job 15 years from now.

I allow students to copy and paste some answers, so I have to teach them those skills, but I always make sure they have read and understood whatever information they are copying and pasting. I also stress how the answers to ALL of the questions can be found in the links and they might want to use KEY WORDS to find the answer in the article. Paying attention to headlines also helps. Sometimes the answer will be in the headline, but some students overlook that, so I use this assignment not only to teach about robotics but also how to navigate through websites to find the answers. Since this webquest takes the student to outside websites, we discuss internet safety and NOT clicking on other links from the original website. Also, sometimes links become broken (and so I will just find another article that relates to the topic and replace it).

I use this for my 4th and 5th grade Gifted Science class. It can take 1-2 hours to complete. I assign this through Google Classroom so students can have an individual copy and write directly into the document. It will change the formatting, but I just tell them that in advance. Hope you like it!
