Rock Cycle Project for middle school!
Earth Science is one of my favorite areas to teach so I'm always trying to come up with new things.
- This is a project I use for my in-person and virtual students.
- Covers NGSS standard 2-1.
- Instructions are on the side of the slides so that you don't have to continually answer the questions of "What do I do?!"
- Allows students to personalize and be creative, while also research and use what they already know.
- This activity is *best used at the end of teaching NGSS standard 2-1.
- For my in person students, I have them present at the end.
- For online students, they simply submit it when finished.
- Project may take 1-3 days to finish +1 to present.

NGSSMS-ESS2-1
Develop a model to describe the cycling of Earth’s materials and the flow of energy that drives this process. Emphasis is on the processes of melting, crystallization, weathering, deformation, and sedimentation, which act together to form minerals and rocks through the cycling of Earth’s materials. Assessment does not include the identification and naming of minerals.
