Description

Make drawing arrays to represent multiplication and write matching equations fast-paced and engaging with the Roll an Array: Treasure Hunt multiplication dice games! This array capture game is 3-in-1 with three versions of the game, so your students can master arrays, become familiar with multiplication facts through 6, and build their conceptual understanding of the commutative property of multiplication!

This array capture multiplication worksheet print and play or low prep game comes with 3 different versions where your students create arrays on the grid and collect one coin for a point, various treasures for differing point values, or the avoid the traps version where they try not to hit the spot!

What's included in this array multiplication game?

  • Roll an Array: Collect the Coins Treasure Hunt
  • Roll an Array: Collect the Treasure Hunt
  • Roll an Array: Avoid the Traps!
  • Optional recording sheets to write equations and keep track of their points
  • Color versions to laminate or put in a dry-erase sleeve
  • Black and White Print and Play versions
  • Directions and variations
  • Hyperlinked table of contents

It can be difficult for students to see arrays, written equations, and multiplication facts as representations of multiplication in a conceptual way. This array multiplication game can help your students connect those ideas for conceptual understanding by hiding the learning in fast-paced fun!

Prep is quick and easy… just print the pages and recording sheets, or place them in a dry-erase sleeve so students can play again and again!

Since there are 3 versions of this multiplication array game, students can easily play independently with any version they choose or you can introduce them gradually so that you meet with small groups or circulate around the room.

Your students will practice

Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
