This engineering design activity has students work in design teams in the design and construction of a free standing structure which keeps a single marble in motion for the longest duration of time possible. Required materials for the project include cardboard, masking tape, marbles, box-cutting or X-acto knives, and rulers. The activity references using an engineering notebook. A rubric is provided.
