Description

Have your students been antsy while doing typical math classroom worksheets? Are you tired of micromanaging their every move while attempting to engage them in overly-complicated "fun" activities on complementary and supplementary angles? If so, you have come to the right place.

This simple, low-prep activity allows students to work in groups and physically rotate in your classroom from station to station, filling out the angle listed, its classification, its complementary angle, and its supplementary angle. Each station includes a bonus question for those kids that just seem to finish faster than others -- introducing the concept of explementary angles (an angle that adds up to 360 degrees).

What you need to set up this rotation activity for basic/quick prep:

✓ A printed copy of the worksheet for each student or group of 1-4

✓ A printed sign for each station

✓ pencil for each student

✓ Tape for signs

✓ Optional: clipboards, calculators

For the more elaborate/colorful prep of these stations, you will want colored paper that is pink, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Signs can be printed and glued on these sheets of paper. You will want 4 colored pencils at each of these stations corresponding to the colors listed above. You may want a cup for each station to hold the pencils.

Included in this digital download:

✓ The activity worksheet pdf for students

✓ The 7 printable station signs

✓ Teacher instructions for set up and facilitation + low print suggestions

✓ The answer key with point values for each question

Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.
Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles. For example, arrange three copies of the same triangle so that the sum of the three angles appears to form a line, and give an argument in terms of transversals why this is so.
