This is a rubric that I created for my fifth grade team. We used this rubric to assess text structure and summarizing. This is only used for nonfiction texts. The students are asked to "track/annotate" throughout their reading. "Tracking" is assessed on this rubric, because it helps our students accurately summarize the information from the text. We also ask that the students create a quick summary statement after each paragraph. They use these statements to come up with one complete summary at the end of their reading.
