Description

Learn about the senses in a fun, hands-on lab experience with the Ruler Drop Lab. Students will test the reaction speed of their different senses and practice scientific skills such as analyzing data, graphing, and improving upon design solutions, and much more. This lab is designed for a 6th-9th grade class and addresses NGSS: MS-LS1-8: Gather and synthesize information that sensory receptors respond to stimuli by sending messages to the brain for immediate behavior or storage as memories.

Activity includes:

  • Pre-Lab reading about the nervous system and 5 senses
  • Pre-Lab questions worksheet
  • Nervous system guided notes and answer key
  • Student Directions
  • Student Lab
  • Teacher directions and tips
  • Post-Lab reflection

Supplies Needed:

  • Ruler or meter stick

Whether you are just practicing lab skills with the scientific method or you are learning about the body systems, this is a wonderfully engaging experience for students that incorporates ELA and Math while truly hitting some scientific practices.
