Spelling Feature: Long and Short e Patterns in Accented Syllables

Words Their Way is a program designed to teach students phonics, spelling, and vocabulary. Each set of slides covers one sort, or set of spelling features, in the Words Their Way curriculum. These slides are easy to assign virtually, and will allow students to examine, manipulate, categorize, and practice writing words with a focus on their spelling features.

These digital word study activities can be used for distance learning, or in the classroom to save paper & allow you to easily view student work and monitor progress!

Digital Word Study Activities: The following slides/activities are included for this sort

  • Feature Sort: Sorting slide with moveable word cards
  • Alternative Sort: Sorting slide with moveable word cards that students are prompted to sort in a different way under new headings
  • Word Hunt: Passage containing words with spelling features + boxes for recording words
  • Spelling Sentences: Graphic organizer for writing sentences containing feature words
  • Written Sort: List of other words with spelling features + editable table for typing/sorting
  • Review & Reflect: An opportunity for students to summarize what they have learned
  • Listen & Spell: Two options for pre-recorded audio or live read-aloud of spelling words
