Description

Bump is a fun and exciting math game that your class is sure to love! It is a great way to start your math lesson as a warm-up activity, a transition activity, or I love using it as an exit activity. Your class will want to play it every day! You will see improvement in their mental math skills the more you play.

HOW TO PLAY:

  • Project the Google Slideshow. Split the class into 2 equal teams and have each team create a single-file line.
  • The students at the front of each line will answer the question on their side of the first game Slide.
  • The student who answers their question correctly first wins the round and goes to the back of their line. The other student is bumped out of the game.
  • The next 2 students in line answer the question on the next Slide.
  • The game continues until there are no players left on a team.

SPECIAL ACTIONS

  • BUMP: student is bumped out of the game
  • FREE PASS: student goes to the end of their line
  • SWITCH: student goes to the end of the other team’s line

RULES & RESPECTFUL PLAY:

  • We always discuss as a class that we play with kindness and respect. We never say anything mean or hurtful to another student. We discuss ways that we can encourage our classmates, such as, “Nice try!”
  • Students are not permitted to shout out or say the answer when it’s not their turn, or they are bumped out of the game.
  • Students are reminded not to brag if they are the winners. It can get pretty competitive sometimes! We always say that it is for fun and for learning.
