As teachers, we have a lot of experience gathering information about our students and using it to make decisions. When we observe students that are more disruptive at certain times of the day, we look closely at the setting to find clues that explain these behaviors. Many of our decisions can be made without collecting data systematically. However, at times a strategic data-based decision-making process may be needed.

Event recording is a process for documenting the number of times a behavior occurs. The major advantage of event recording is that it can be easy to implement and can be used while teaching class. Event recording can be used if your objective is to increase or decrease the number of times a behavior occurs.
