Description

Help students set Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant, Time-based goals!

In this packet, students will:

  • Identify their academic strengths and weaknesses
  • Plan SMART goals, and actions to take to reach them
  • Track and reflect on their progress

What’s included?

- Cover page for students

- List making prep

  • Students list 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses. They also list 3 people they can go to for help if they need it.

- SMART goals acronym poster

  • Explanation of what each letter in SMART means.

- How to set a SMART goal

  • Tips, and examples of bad goals versus SMART goals.

- SMART goal example

  • A sample goal with a deadline, how it will be measured, and actionable steps. Also, sample weekly reflections on progress made.

- Blank SMART goals templates

  • 2 blank goals pages, and 8 tracking/reflection pages are included. Of course, you can choose to print more/less depending on student need.

How to set goals:

The SMART Goals packet is customizable. Please omit or duplicate pages as needed for your students.

  • This packet works best when students have easy access to view their goals and update their progress. It can be printed, or filled in digitally.
  • Students first think about their academic strengths and weaknesses, and who they can turn to if they need help.
  • The poster then helps to explain the 5 elements of a SMART goal (specific, measurable, actionable, relevant, and time-based).
  • Tips on goal setting are given, as well as examples of bad goals versus SMART goals.
  • Lastly, there is an example of a goal with a deadline, how it will be measured, and actionable steps. Students can refer back to this when setting their own goals.
  • There are 2 blank goals pages included, but you may print more/less as needed.

How to do the tracking/reflection:

  • There is an example of how to complete the goal tracking/reflections. It’s meant to give students an idea of what it might look like when things are going well, and when things are challenging. It also provides students with a reference if they are unsure of what to write.
  • Students write the date, actions they have taken, and how they are feeling about their progress.
  • Help choose a realistic, consistent reflection period to instill accountability. Once a week or every two weeks works well for most students.
  • 8 blank reflection pages are included, but feel free to print more/less as needed.
