SNIPS is a classroom/behavior management technique that is fun for both students and teachers. This approach to discipline brings a hands-on and visual association that is suitable for any early elementary classroom.

How It Works: Students are provided with a SNIPS behavior card each week. Each card is divided into the five days of school while holding 3 SNIPS per day. Each time a student breaks a rule, the teacher will use a hole punch to take a SNIP from their card. Punishment and reward are left entirely up to each individual teacher.

SNIPS is an acronym for the five basic classroom rules: Shouting, Noisy, Impolite, Pushing, Stingy. Teachers are encouraged to define their classroom rules for each of these 5 categories.

This technique works well with students because of the visual representation of their behavior. Students have a card that identifies their behavior for each day and week that they can actually see and touch and feel. Students are also reprimanded for bad behavior immediately which promotes a greater understanding and association between good and bad behaviors.
