S.T.A.R. Writing is a program to teach students how to write about their opinion effectively. S.T.A.R. is a mnemonic device to help students remember what is needed to clearly express their opinion.
The mnemonic device is based on the Common Core Standards for opinion writing. Each part of S.T.A.R. is tied to the standards:

S-State an opinion
T-Tell why with reasons
A-Add linking words
R-Retell opinion in closing sentence
