- PDF

Description
Great Project for Distance Learning and Remote Learning!
Do your students start the year struggling with the scientific method, metric measurements, International System of Units (SI) data analysis and graphing? Do they need a STEM activity to practice measuring in the metric system? Maybe you have gift students that need more of a challenge. Try this engaging STEAM activity bundle that allows students to design, build and test a paper airplane using the scientific method, record and analyze data, use their data to make metric conversions, and graph the data they record.
Grade Level: 4th – 8th
Concepts: Scientific Method, Data Analysis, Metric Measurement, SI, Graphing, Scale Models (optional)
Materials: glue, scissors, tape, paper clips, scrap paper, white paper, construction paper, etc.
Objective: Students will construct a paper airplane in order to conduct flight trials, collect data, practice metric measurement, graphing, and creating scale models.
FULL PREVIEW AVAILABLE
This bundle should take a full week (or more) to complete. I actually do this activity at the end of the year to make use of all of my extra worksheet copies. I hate wasting paper, and this allows me to feel just a bit less guilty. If nothing else, dig out all of those old papers taking up space in your cabinets and let students build their prototypes with it! For the actual design, use whatever materials your heart desires. I think less is more, but that’s just a personal preference.
What's Included:
- Airplane Brainstorming and Design Worksheets (2)
- Flight Trial Data and Reflection Worksheet
- Modified Flight Trial Data and Reflection Worksheet
- Metric Unit Conversions Worksheet
- Measurement Estimation and Scale Model Worksheet
- Flight Data Line Graph Worksheet
- Class Data Histogram Worksheet
- Mean, Median, Mode and Range Worksheet
- 2 BONUS STEAM Challenges
