Description

This easy-prep one-day STEM Challenge is a must-have! Use basic materials and have students earn their supplies and build a structure of their choice. It's fun, highly engaging, quick, and exciting. Will there be groans or cheers as students roll the dice?

What is the challenge?

In this challenge, students will roll a number cube and 'earn' six different materials. The structure the teams will build is your option. The resource includes suggestions. (cars, towers, bridges, etc.)

What do you need?

You will need materials in addition to this package. This includes masking tape, straws, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, cardboard pieces, cardstock, paper clips, string or yarn, index cards, and number cubes.

What is included?

This package will give you a list of materials, preparation ideas, and then step-by-step procedures to make this a successful event. You have 2 versions of the number board - one is American Standard measurements and the second is metric measurements.

The package specifically includes:

  • Materials and preparation
  • Student lab sheet in an editable format. You will need PowerPoint to make changes to the lab sheet.
  • A number board (students roll a number cube and follow a vertical and horizontal path on the board to determine which materials will be earned.)
  • Terms of Use page

How long does this take?

This challenge will need 1 class session to complete.

Who is this for?

This was tested with fifth graders. It could be used with 3rd and 4th graders, too!
