Kids can think...invent...discover...change the world

Through the Novel Engineering approach, students will engage in critical and creative thinking while practicing literacy and engineering skills. While reading a book to or with students, the teacher will help students identify the problems that the characters encounter. Students will brainstorm ways to solve those problems and ultimately work to design a functional solution to help the character(s), taking their characteristics, as well as the book’s setting, plot, and other textual features into account. The goal of the Novel Engineering approach is to create problem solvers of tomorrow by empowering students with innovative research based engineering experiences. Through their experiences in Novel Engineering, students will exemplify the determination, perseverance, grit, and teamwork necessary to succeed in the challenges they will face in all areas of school life and beyond graduation.
