Description
In this STEM Challenge, students will be building a treasure box to hold any treasure of their choice. The rules of the task are daunting- as daunting as a pirate! Speaking of pirates-STEM and reading are a perfect combination. This fabulous and quick challenge is inspired by a pirate book. Read the book and engineer a treasure box!
What is the challenge?
This challenge features the task of using given supplies to design and build a box to hold treasure. You can opt to create boxes that resemble a treasure chest with a rounded and hinging lid. Specific criteria for the task are given to students along with a box of supplies. Stand back and watch them construct! Students record their thinking on lab sheets. Students loved this one and really worked hard to use the supplies well!
You will love the easy prep!
The suggested pirate book is one you will love and your students will, too. It’s totally optional to read the book. This challenge can be completed without it.
The package specifically contains:
- Cover sheet
- Teacher Background
- 4 pages of Teacher Directions
- Set of Criteria cards for students (in 2 versions)
- Lab Sheet with answer samples
- 2 pages of photos
