S.T.E.M. activities may seem daunting when teaching young children. This is a STEM activity that I created to go with the nursery rhyme, Jack And Jill. I would use this activity any time that I am teaching about nursery rhymes. I like to include literature, reading, and writing into my STEM activity so that I can incorporate it into my reading block if needed. There is so much that has to be taught, and so little time!

Jack fell down and broke his crown before he could get a drink of water. His head really hurt, so his friend Jill decided to give him a drink of water from the pail. She didn’t want to accidentally bump him with the heavy pail of water, so she looked inside her bag to see what she could use to help her friend get a drink. All she had was some loose sheets of paper and a pair of scissors. Can you help Jill come up with a way to fold a loose sheet of paper in such a way that it can hold ¼ cup of water? If the paper can hold water long enough for Jill to count to 20 by 2’s, she believes that it would hold water long enough for her friend to get a drink.
