Description
Looking for an engaging way for to show your students just how small they are in space?! Each beautifully themed slide includes an interactive portion for students to complete individually or with a small group in class or for homework! This resource is also a great tool for remote or distance learning.
In these slides students will:
-compare astronomical units & light years as units of measurement in space
-observe how scientists use models to visualize the solar system
-make their own model of the solar system with correct ratios for planet/sun size & distances between them
-learn how astronomers measure distance objects in space
-demonstrate comprehension of vocabulary terms by placing them in order of size
-learn how scientists determined where we are located in the Milky Way Galaxy
-practice classifying real galaxies through an interactive website
-research an astronomer & describe one of their important discoveries
The slides include:
Student writing prompts, a small group solar system modeling activity, discussion questions, embedded videos, link to an interactive website for classifying galaxies, astronomer research activity, interactive vocabulary review, and a separate teacher version WITH ANSWER KEYS.
Next Generations Science Standards:
MS-ESS1-3 Earth's Place in the Universe
Analyze and interpret data to determine scale properties of objects in the solar system.
