This editable science current events template includes a printer-friendly and a Google Slides digital version that can be used for any science current event articles for any subject area in science! Use this as a supplemental activity to your curriculum to improve writing and comprehension skills.

Use this current events template for:

  • Sub Plans
  • Online Learning
  • Homework
  • Independent review
  • Stations
  • Interactive Notebook Activity
  • Early Finishers

Students choose an article or you can assign an article for the class. Students will summarize the article, provide opinions, apply the new knowledge to their own life as well as state positive and negative outcomes of the information.

Why Use Current Events in Science?

1. Relevance: Current events help students make the connection between what they are learning in the classroom and how they are relevant to the real world. By connecting classroom content to real scientific discoveries and news, students can see how science truly impacts them.

2. Engagement: Using current events makes learning science more engaging. Students are more interested in learning about to how they are relatable to real life.

3. Critical thinking: Analyzing current events articles helps students think critically about scientific information that is presented in media sources.

4. Application of Knowledge: Using current events in the science classroom provides students with the ability to apply their scientific knowledge to the real world.
