Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS) addressed in this packet:

Make this fun foldable to teach students about science! Project the 7 slides onto your classroom whiteboard to introduce students to the topics: What is science? And what do scientists do? Use the pictures on the slides to encourage class discussion. The first 2 slides explain what science is, then the next 5 slides show pictures of scientists. Use these to teach your students that anyone can be a scientist! Four famous scientists are featured: Jane Goodall, Albert Einstein, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Barbara McClintock. Next make the fun, colorful science foldable out of just 2 pieces of standard size 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Step-by-step directions show how to put together the foldable using glue or tape. The Erlenmeyer flask and beaker on the cover flap up to reveal student writing and the magnifying lens is a place where your students can draw something tiny that can be seen with a magnifying lens. Inside the foldable, there is a clipboard that can be used for student writing, a picture of both male and female scientists – both flap up to reveal info on specific scientists, and an envelope that has info on 5 science skills: observing, questioning, hypothesizing, experimenting, concluding. All pictures can be printed on white paper and colored or they can be printed directly onto colorful paper. Your students will love making these fun, colorful little foldables!
