Description
How does the term ‘scientific literacy’ apply to our students? We want them to be able to perform science-y things. We want them to conduct experiments on their own and build and test different scientific models. We don’t necessarily want them to just KNOW scientific facts and memorize them for a test. We want them to understand and DO science things because they have the knowledge and understanding already. BUT, with the adoption of the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards by several states, teachers across the curriculum are driven to implement literacy tasks within their subjects in a more comprehensive way. Science teachers, who are trained to be “clinical” content specialists, are asking the question ‘HOW?!?!?!”
