Description

In this engaging lesson, students study applications of Newton’s laws of motion by reading a nonfiction article about Newton's First Law. They then complete comprehension questions and use some everyday materials to demonstrate Newton’s First Law of Motion.

The science reading comprehension activities are designed to engage your middle school science students with an interesting article, questions, and a mini-project. The leveled science reading passage can be used to increase reading comprehension and science literacy.

What's Included?

  • on-level and modified science passages appropriate for grades 6 - 8 middle school (and higher-level 5th graders)
  • Lexile levels: 1100-1300 (2 leveled articles)
  • science article has 5-7 coordinating questions and a mini-activity
  • hands on, interactive mini-project
  • Cornell notes template for annotation
  • engaging, colorful graphics are easily printed in grayscale
  • file formats: PDF; editable PowerPoint (Google Sheets compatible); separate PowerPoint files are designed for printing and for digital responses

  • Students can annotate the text with highlights, underlines, circles, and stars to identify their answers in the informational text and improve critical thinking skills.
