Description

Practice and extend science vocabulary all year with this set of 100 riddle cards about animals, weather, plants, the ocean, and the human body. These integrated curriculum cards and activities will build background knowledge & connections, for learning that lasts!

Science riddles are a form of informational text, and are an engaging way to help your young learners master new vocabulary along with reading comprehension skills like identifying key details, inferring, and drawing conclusions.

Here's what this science vocabulary activities bundle includes!

* Printable riddle card sets for oceans, animals, plants, weather, and the human body

* Each of the sets includes a template for students to write their own riddles, with suggestions given for each of the themes.

* An assortment of games to coordinate with the themes (four in a row, word search game, bingo, matching)

* Bonus cross-curricular activities (graphing, color by code addition) to help you extend your science learning themes into math lessons and math centers.

Here are some ideas for using these science riddle sets with your class!

✅ Use a science riddle to focus attention at the beginning of your lesson.

✅ Solve several riddles together as a whole class activity. Depending on your purposes, display the riddle card on your interactive board or, for more focus on active listening skills, read a riddle aloud without the visual display.

✅ Discuss and model the process of solving a riddle, intentionally using the same terms you do in your literacy teaching, such as details, important information, inferring, and drawing conclusions.

✅ Put your riddle cards on a ring to have them handy to use as sponge activities between lessons or in those two minutes when you're waiting to go to lunch, recess, etc.

✅ After you've solved the riddles, put the cards in a science or literacy center for your students to read and solve independently or as a partner activity.

✅ Preparing for an end-of-unit test? Riddle cards are a great way to review!

✅ Use the writing template included with each of the topic sets to launch a writing activity that will also include speaking and listening! Whether whole class or in a small group, have your students write riddles within the science topic you're teaching. Have students practice reading them aloud, and then have them "perform", reading aloud to the whole class to solve. Afterwards, assemble all of the riddles into a class book.

✅ Use the unique games and activities included in these riddle sets to integrate your science topics throughout the day and give a huge boost to your students' control of science vocabulary!

I can't say enough about the riddle packs, including this one. My grandson loves, loves learning this way! I've made it into a game for him. If he can solve the riddle, he gets to toss a "snowball" into a snowman bucket (for the winter season). I'll change up the game aspect as we change themes. Having both a picture and written answer provides differentiation without a lot of effort on my part. Just love this product!
