CSI: Classroom Science Investigation - Observe, Predict, Infer!

Turn your classroom into a center for scientific inquiry with this engaging activity sheet! This resource is designed to help your 4th graders solidify their understanding of the key science skills: observation, prediction, and inference.


What's Included?

  • Instruction Sheet: A clear and concise guide for teachers, outlining the activity steps.
  • Sorting Showdown! (Cut-out Cards) Title cards for each category: Observation, Prediction, and Inference AND Statement cards on various scientific scenarios that students will need to categorize.

What should you do?

As the teacher:

  1. Gear Up for the Investigation: Print out the activity sheets and cut out the statement cards.
  2. Set the Scene: Introduce the concept of observation, prediction, and inference, explaining the difference between each.
  3. Sorting Showdown! Divide students into groups (optional) or have them work individually. Distribute the statement cards and title cards. Students will analyze each statement and categorize it under the appropriate title (Observation, Prediction, or Inference).
  4. Checking the Evidence: Review the answers together as a class, discussing why each statement belongs in its designated category.
