Description
Time and time again, my class will ask fantastic science questions like, "Why is the sky blue?" and "Where did the Earth come from?"
It can be really difficult to answer these questions! And it can be even more problematic trying to find websites, books and videos that can answer these questions in a way that is both engaging and understandable for Primary School kids.
Thank heavens for You Tube and video content providers like Sci Show Kids, Crash Course Kids and Kids Health! They produce short videos that explain science content to kids in a fun and accurate way.
However, the problem that I face is: There are so many fantastic videos out there. How can I ensure that I am choosing the right resource without having to watch several hundred videos?
That is why I created my Science Videos Database. It lists over 250 science videos created for Primary School kids. Each video has the following information included in the database:
- Science questions the video addresses
- Video name
- Video author
- URL
- Questions to ask learners based on the video
- Year Level this video addresses, aligned to the English Curriculum
- Science Topic this video addresses (e.g. Humans, Plants, Sound or Forces)
Instructions are included in the database for how you can search the database by Year Level, Science Topic or Keyword.
Now, when my students are struggling to find resources when researching for an independent inquiry, I can quickly find and give them a list of science videos.
Now, when I have a spare five minutes before lunch and a student has a really burning questions about tectonic plates, I can quickly find and show the class a video that explains tectonic plates better than I ever could.
Enjoy!
