Students actively investigate color distributions using the scientific method, making data-driven discoveries while engaging in graphing, analysis, and collaborative comparisons. Science + Candy = You are the World's Best Teacher!
Your students will love this candy inquiry lab. They will be investigating the distribution of colors of candy within a bag of M&M's. Students will work through the steps of the scientific method while staying actively engaged.
Lesson Overview. Students will:
- Understand the basic steps of the scientific method and apply each step in an inquiry investigation
- Gather data from an investigation and create a graph
- Answer higher order thinking analysis questions based on the findings of an investigation
- Compare their findings with other groups to identify the similarities and differences of the investigation
THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:
- A PDF version of all documents
- A Google Slides version- Ideal for posting directly to Google Classroom
This lesson includes opportunities for both individual and collaborative learning. All learning activities can be adapted for individual learning or teamwork depending on teacher preference.
Required Materials:
One bag of M&M's for each individual/group (you may use regular size bags or fun size bags for this investigation)
