Description

In this experiment students put gobstoppers in petri dishes of water and observe what happens to the disolving colors.

Materials Needed:
(Per person/group/pair)
6 gobstopper candy peices
1 petri dish or shallow round container
water

Time: 40 minutes

This is a great activity that focuses on the steps of the scientific method. Students should have prior knowledge of the scientific method.

The homework assignment asks students to write their own procedure for a gobstopper experiment of their choice. For example, student might like to investigate how colors change in various liquids or how the temperature of water affects the dissolving colors. Students could be given the choice to carry out their experiments the next class.
