This set of activities will keep your students busy, engaged, and learning for two class periods. It's a great way to interactively take your students through the Scientific Method step-by-step. The first day, teacher and students go through the PowerPoint which is a combination of fill-in-the-blank notes and teacher-directed lab activity where everyone participates. I like to call these “interactive notes,” because it keeps the student engaged and involved the entire time. The second day, students lead a student-directed lab activity. They start the class period with their Lab Activity Sheet and the materials they will need for the investigation. They must use the information they learned the day before to guide themselves through this laboratory activity. It is fun to watch the students discover their own clever ways of testing their hypothesis. The only thing given to them is the “Problem” (or “Question”) and materials.
