Science + Candy = You are the World's Best Teacher!

Your students will love this gummy bear inquiry lab. They will be investigating the movement of liquid into and out of a gummy bear in a given solution. Students will work through the steps of the scientific method while staying actively engaged.

Lesson Overview. Students will:

  • Understand the basic steps of the scientific method and apply each step in an inquiry investigation
  • Gather data from an investigation and create a graph
  • Answer higher order thinking analysis questions based on the findings of an investigation
  • Compare their findings with other groups to identify the similarities and differences of the investigation

THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:

  • A PDF version of all documents
  • A Google Slides version- Ideal for posting directly to Google Classroom

This lesson includes opportunities for both individual and collaborative learning. All learning activities can be adapted for individual learning or teamwork depending on teacher preference.

Required Materials:

3 Gummy Bears per individual/group

Salt (1 tablespoon per individual/group)

Sugar (1 tablespoon per individual/group)

Tablespoon

Scale

Ruler

Water

3 containers/beakers per individual group

Tape (for labeling containers)
