Description

This editable 8th grade math (pre-algebra) foldable notes, provide students with an organized set of notes and practice problems for rewriting numbers in scientific notation and standard form. This foldable includes positive powers, only. The top portion of the foldable provides an overview of scientific notation, along with a guided example going from standard form to scientific notation and scientific notation to standard form. The bottom two tabs provide an additional 12 practice problems that may be used for additional guided or independent practice.

These notes work perfect within interactive math notebooks or as a standalone resource! I use this type of assignment during whole group guided instruction, but it would also work great for intervention, small group, centers, or during a tutoring session.

This download includes a print + go PDF version, as well as the editable PowerPoint file.

Use numbers expressed in the form of a single digit times an integer power of 10 to estimate very large or very small quantities, and to express how many times as much one is than the other. For example, estimate the population of the United States as 3 × 10⁸ and the population of the world as 7 × 10⁹, and determine that the world population is more than 20 times larger.
