This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations. During this engaging task, students will be converting numbers in scientific notation into standard notation, converting numbers in standard notation into scientific notation, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing scientific notation. In addition, there is a writing piece where students must explain their thinking and some of the strategies they used to answer the questions about scientific notation.
