Students have a hard time responding to their own reading. In order to write a good reading response, it is important for students to see and hear what that sounds like! This product contains 4 sample responses based off of the beloved book, Because of Winn Dixie, and a simple 0-4 reading response rubric for students to follow. After reading each of the 4 responses, students score the response using the rubric and discuss their thoughts.

The sample responses show students how to pick thoughts that are not directly stated in the text, use text evidence and page numbers to support their ideas, and to explain their thinking.
