"I loved how easy this was to implement into my classroom. The instructions were thorough without being overwhelming, and students were able to troubleshoot independently."

Description

This resource will walk teachers and students through coding an "about me" project in Scratch. This is a great hour of code, beginning-of-the-year, or anytime coding activity.

Students will communicate fun facts about themselves through their code and eventually share their code with you and their classmates. This lesson can be scaffolded to brand new Scratch users or can teach seasoned Scratch learners something new!

This resource includes digital Google Slides with instructions on how to add different types of coding blocks to Sprites (including sound, movement, communication, costumes, and more). It also includes a pdf brainstorming sheet that can be printed off or used digitally to think about facts students want to share about themselves. There is also a link to an example Scratch program in the slides to use as reference if needed.

Learning Targets:

  • I can code a sprite using sequences in Scratch

  • I can communicate facts about myself clearly with words and animations through my code sequences.

  • I can debug problems in my code, persevere, and try again!

Key Words/Concepts:

  • Sprite
  • Code
  • Program
  • Sequence
  • Coordinate Pair
  • Event Block
  • Loop

Thank you for the kind review! That is exactly what I'm hoping for when I make these resources and teach them in my own classroom. I hope you get a chance check out more from this store :)
