Description

This lesson has been designed as the perfect follow-up to our introductory Name Animation lesson (although it works just fine on its own!). Students will learn to master the art of event-driven programming, which is a cornerstone concept in creating interactive animations and stories. They will explore cutscenes as they learn to craft compelling narratives of their own, setting the stage for developing animations for their future games.

Structured to build foundational coding skills, this presentation ensures a deepened understanding through:

  • A descriptive task overview that sets the stage for what's to come.
  • Clearly defined learning objectives and targeted outcomes.
  • Includes an introductory video, explaining the code.
  • The slides are set-up to have students use "Plain English" in code reading, which enhances comprehension.
  • Interesting additional challenges that cater to a wide range of learners, including creating a Sound Scape, developing Branching Narratives, and incorporating Surprise Elements (Easter Eggs) to enrich their stories.
  • Thoughtful guided reflection exercises based on the 'What? So What? Now What?' protocol, encouraging students to connect their learning experiences with broader concepts and future programming.
  • Upon completing this lesson, students will embrace more complex coding challenges with confidence and creativity. They'll be equipped not only with the technical skills but also with the courage to experiment and to take risks.

Eager for more? Get ready to dive into Lesson 3, where we continue our coding adventure with loops and the "Pen Tool", guiding students through the creation of their very own custom screensaver. These lessons are designed to transform students into confident, creative coders!
