Description

Compare and contrast the original Rip Van Winkle with this reader’s theater version for 13 characters and a choral reading poem. Script makes it easy to cover CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.11-12.7 Analyze multiple interpretations of a story, drama, or poem (e.g., recorded or live production of a play or recorded novel or poetry), evaluating how each version interprets the source text. Reader’s theater can build fluency and comprehension whether it is used as a pre-reading introduction or an option for readers who might struggle with the original text. It gives an authentic reason to read and reread.

Also included are 14 discussion starters, journaling prompts and assignments as well as directions for how to do choral readings and reader’s theater as a whole class or jigsaw activity, plus rubrics for reader’s theater. A Comparison Alley printable is included as an alternative to Venn diagrams for compare and contrast.

This will be a great intro activity, everyone gets the gist of the story first. Plus the choral script will double nicely as poetry piece for reviewing rhythm and rhyme schemes
