Description

This bundle of Inquiry-Based project packets about Sea Creatures/Ocean Animals guides students in developing their skills in writing and answering Inquiry Based Questions. The included materials also help students organize and cite their work using the Cornell Notes format. The packets include sample questions, as well as links to reliable sources for information.

In this project, students will learn about sea creatures by activating prior knowledge, writing questions, conducting inquiry-based research, creating a presentation, and sharing their findings with the class.

Objectives

By the end of this project, students will be able to:

  • Identify key characteristics of sea creatures
  • Describe the habitat and diet of sea creatures
  • Explain the threats to sea creatures
  • Discuss ways to protect sea creatures

Materials

  • Computers with internet access
  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Creative materials depending on final product 

Procedure

  1. Students will activate prior knowledge about sea creatures, write inquiry-based questions, then research sea creatures using online resources and books.
  2. Students will create a presentation to share their findings with the class.
  3. Students will present their findings to the class.
  4. Students will answer questions from the class about sea creatures.

Grading Rubric

The project will be graded on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the topic 
  • Quality of the research 
  • Organization of the presentation 
  • Communication skills 
  • Creativity 

Assessment

The project will be assessed by the teacher. The teacher will use the grading rubric to assess the project.

Extension

Students can extend this project by creating a slide show, poster or a diorama about sea creatures. They can also write a story or poem about sea creatures.
