NEW: Digital Activity for Google Slides included
This unique sea turtle project is the perfect activity for the last few months of school. It integrates research, measurement, latitude and longitude, and technology!
Pages 2-4
- First, students will find out that they have been hired to be a research assistant for a conservation organization. They will read about how this organization helps sea turtles. Then, as a part of their job, they will write about what they learned in a creative way.
- Next they will read and highlight information about the anatomy and nesting habits of sea turtles. They will find evidence at the end of this activity.
Pages 5-20
- After that they will read about the seven types of sea turtles and map their usual locations. You can even have your students create the turtles with the descriptions.
- There are graphing pages for students to compare the size of each turtle.
- There is a review worksheet to see what they've learned.
Pages 21-24
- Students will learn about Longitude and Latitude in an activity.
- My favorite part of this activity involves students tracking certain sea turtles using a website given to you. In this activity, they will learn about (or review) latitude and longitude as they show where the turtles are in the world right now. A grid map is included.
