Description

This "secret message" activity will amuse your students and teach them about using the part and the percent to find the whole. For example, 5 is 20% of what number? (25)

Directions: In each row, use the part and the percent to find the whole. You can write fractions to help you. Write a fraction in the part-to-whole form. Circle the letter next to the greatest whole value in each row. The first one has been completed for you.

At the end, read the message from top to bottom. It reads, "Found the whole." (The other letters spell "Just part of it.")

And all you have to do is copy it! The prep is all done for you. It's easy to check. Just see if they found the secret message! It's up to you to determine how much work you require your students to show. Use it as group work, homework, enrichment, or extra practice.

You can get this activity and 12 more in the Secret Message Math Bundle. Check it out! You save over 50% by buying the bundle.

Thanks, and enjoy!

I used this as a classwork assignment after the lesson. Gave the students something different than just a plain worksheet with problems. They always want to know what the secret code/riddle answer is so I tend to use a fair number of these kinds of activities. Nice supplemental resource.
