Description

Please watch the (speeded up!) video preview of the PowerPoint and worksheet.

Please note, the focus is on accessibility to the content and is generally of low demand. This is a dyslexia-friendly template in which font, background and character spacing increase readability.

This follows on from my lessons on DNA, inheritance and variation.

I enjoyed putting this one together. Lots of good opportunities for discussion and I love the chicken breeding activity. One of my more challenging learners lives on a chicken farm, and had a huge confidence boost leading a discussion with this activity!

The PowerPoint captures interest with footballing (soccer) brothers - you could adjust this to American football if you live in the USA. A quick search found this video. A class discussion follows using prompts to get them thinking about inherited features and the influence of the environment and upbringing.

The concept of selective breeding is introduced via discussion followed by an explanatory video. Students then take on the role of a chicken breeder and choose the most appropriate chickens to breed.

Enjoy!
