Description

Students learn how to show self-control through the completion of three different challenges. As they work they self-monitor and track their skills with a self-control remote activity sheet.

Each challenge targets a different common struggle with self-control.

Challenge #1 (Bubble Challenge): Staying Focused
Challenge #2 (Animal Action): Following Multiple Step Directions
Challenge #3 (Penguin Huddle): Hands to Self

Included are two letters with extension ideas for teachers and families. The lesson plan includes ASCA Standards and has ideas for data collection. This could be easily adjusted for a small group (three sessions).

This was one of the first items I used as a newbie counselor who was still trying to learn the ropes and get myself acclimated to my job and my school. This was a simple way to work with students and I think they really enjoyed the analogy to controlling themselves and controlling the TV or video games. I loved that it wasn't just the worksheet, but the supporting activities came in handy, as well.
